Rehabilitation in Mental Health Disabilities: Assessing the Present and Tackling Future Challenges

Rehabilitation for mental health disabilities is a vital and continually developing field that seeks to address both psychological and functional impairments caused by a range of mental health conditions, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, autismspectrum disorder, and intellectual disabilities. These conditions often result in significant cognitive, emotional, andsocial challenges, requiring a multidisciplinary approach to rehabilitation. Current rehabilitation strategies involve psychosocial interventions, cognitive-behavioral therapies, and vocational training aimed at enhancing autonomy and improving the qualityof life. However, several persistent challenges remain, including social stigmatization, limited accessibility, insufficient resources, and fragmented care models. Moreover, the lack of personalized, evidence-based interventions further hampersthe effectiveness of rehabilitation services. This narrative review explores the present state of mental health disability rehabilitation, highlighting the challenges facedandthe ongoing efforts to innovate through emerging technologies, policy reforms, and integrated care models. Special emphasisis placed on the role of telehealth, AI-driven tools, and interdisciplinary approaches in delivering patient-centered care. Thereview also stresses the need for reducing societal stigma, enhancing accessibility, and promoting more comprehensivecarecoordination. By fostering collaboration across various sectors and disciplines, the future of mental disability rehabilitationholds the potential to provide more inclusive and effective services tailored to the diverse needs of individuals.
